Valentine's Day

Our Valentine's Day this year was perfect!  It started early in the morning with my intentions to wake up at 7:30 to make breakfast for Grant, but then his alarm went off at 7:00 to do the very same thing! I tried to make him stay in bed, and he tried to make me stay in bed, so we just decided to get up and make breakfast together. I also set up some of the decorations I had made for the day. A quick "Valentine's Day" banner and some paper flowers with dum-dum lollipops as the center.  It was a perfect way to start the day: heart-shaped pancakes, orange juice, and pink-frosted cookies.

Later that day, Grant came and picked me up from class at 5:30 and had a huge bouquet of roses for me! Then when we got home I noticed that he had sprinkled flower petals and red balloons all over the floor, which made a path to the dinner table which he had also set up. It was so cute!

For dinner he made me a salad for starters, home-made gnocchi with home-made tomato sauce for the main course, and chocolate mousse with strawberries for dessert! It both looked amazing and tasted delicious. Plus I know it took him hours to make, so I was really grateful to have such a sweet husband :)

We exchanged gifts after dinner. I got Grant a type of wallet that he's been wanting for a long time. Instead of opening up, it just has a slot for cards and a money clip. I then engraved the money clip to make it a little more personal. I also made him his card this year and gave it to him a long with a bag of candy.

He got me a gold necklace, tons of candy, and three movies. All the movies were chick flicks and he told me I could pick one to watch for the next part of our date. So I picked "Valentine's Day" (it seemed fitting) and we set up camp in our living room with the movie and all the chocolate and candy we had given each other.

It turned out to be a great movie! And it was so nice to be able to stay home and just relax and spend time together. Best Valentine's Day we've had yet!

Visit to Logan and Superbowl Party

Last weekend was a busy one for me. I left around 1pm on Friday to drive up to Logan. Well truthfully I left the house at 1:00 to go to Target to pick up my sister's gift, and then was on the road by 2:00. The drive isn't even that bad -- just two hours -- but I hate it! I think it's because I just want to get there but not matter how hard I try, I really can't cut the drive down. The best I did was one hour and fourty-five minutes, but anyways that's besides the point.

I went up to visit Andrea because 1.) even though I just saw her over Christmas break it felt like months longer since I had seen her, and 2.) her birthday is in two weeks and I knew I wouldn't be able to be with her so I wanted to celebrate it early.

It's actually because of that last reason that I wanted to make it up to Logan quickly. I knew she got off work at 5:00, but I wanted to have her house decorated, her gift out, and her cake made all by the time she got home. So when I pulled into her cute little town home I sprinted from my car, threw everything on her apartment floor, and got to work!

Here's some pictures of how it looked when she came home:
I already had a reason to hang the Birthday Banner I made!
Her present and cake (well pie) waiting for her on her table
Close up of the delicious pie (I promise it tastes so much better than it looks)

It was fun for me to decorate everything for her and she was really surprised! Confused at first, since her birthday isn't for another few weeks, but then really happy about it! Ha. After she got home and she opened up her present (I got her these cute boots:)

we started on dinner. We made my favorite home-made Macaroni & Cheese dish. I'm sure people are sick of it by now because I'm always making it for people or making it when we have people over, so I really should try to find something else I like just as much. But it's delicious and turned out great! Then for dessert I sang to her and we had her birthday pie (also way too good).

That night we just stayed in and watched Titanic. But the next day we woke up early and went to the gym for a few hours, went out to lunch, went to Hobby Lobby, and then back home to watch Harry Potter. By that time it was getting late and I had to go so I could make it out of the canyon while there was still some daylight.

But seeing Andrea was so much fun! And I'm incredibly jealous of her spacious (and very cute) town-house. I can't wait until Grant and I can move into a place where we can actually fit all our furniture, not to mention not have to use our cars as storage! Ha it's hilarious. I can never have anyone ride with me because my trunk and back seat is full of suitcases, Christmas decorations, Halloween decorations, towels, etc.

Switching gears, Sunday was the Superbowl! And although I didn't even know who was playing in the game until the morning of, I still had a great time at the party :)

For the 8 of us (Finn makes 9) we went through three pizzas, an entire batch of chocolate balls and chocolate-covered pretzels, three kinds of chips with three kinds of dips, spinach-artichoke dip with french bread, a case of strawberries (at least we got some fruit in), cheese and crackers, a huge batch of muddy buddys, blondie-brownies, an entire batch of swedish meatballs, and 81/2 liters of soda!

It was quite delicious :)

Oh and Finn joining our party was by far the best part!
 Pre-gaming:

It was so much fun! I'll admit, I didn't even find out the score of the game until the next morning over breakfast with Grant, but that was never really my intention. I just love to have an excuse to have everyone over. We seriously have the best friends and I don't know what we're going to do without them when we all leave! Just motivates me even more to spend as much time as possible with them now, and start saving up for vacations with them later!

First Sewing Project Completed!

Lately all I've been thinking about is how much I want to learn how to sew. Ideally I want to get good enough where I can start making simple clothes, and then get more and more into clothing construction (just getting prepared for all the Halloween costumes I'll be making in the future). The only problem was I didn't have a sewing machine! So I looked online everyday trying to figure out the right machine and where to get the best price. But I didn't know how to know which machine was better than the other, or what fancy gadgets I needed on a machine. So once again, I am so grateful for my wonderful grandmothers and all they do for me, including letting me borrow their machine :)

Grant and I went to Vegas a few weekends ago and on the way stopped in St. George to see my Grandma and my aunts and uncles. I told my Grandpa about my sewing dilemma and she let me borrow hers for a little while to learn on and see if sewing is something I actually want to peruse. Which was great! And of course I took it out of the box as soon as we got home and the next day went to Joanne's to get fabric to start my first project: a Happy Birthday banner. I've always wanted to make one and they looked pretty easy. Plus they are so much cuter than the ones you buy at the store.

I used this tutorial, which was great because she had the triangle cut outs ready to print off as well as the letters for the "HAPPY BIRTHDAY."

Here's just a couple of pictures of the project:

First I got my fabric and cut out the letters using Wonder Under
Next I cut out the triangles and sewed them up
Then I top-stitched each letter on (in addition to ironing it on),
and binded it all together using bias tape
Then I hung it up!

I'm really happy with how it turned out! I think it's so colorful and great for either a boy's birthday or a girl's birthday. Not only that but I actually finished a sewing project -- that feels pretty good!
