Moving into our new house has been quite the process! Grant and I had one full day to work on the house (last Tuesday) and then Wednesday it was back to work full-time for me, and back to school and then work for Grant. So the only time we've been able to find to move-in is at night once we've gotten home from work (and that's pretty late for me, since I don't get off work til 7). Needless to say, it's been crazy and a very slow process.
We were able to move in all of our furniture, but we're still living with piles of boxes everywhere and we can't even access our back door. Our bedroom might be the worst of all - our king size bed is taking up the entire room so Grant can't even get to his side of the bed from the floor. He has to crawl over piles of unorganized clothes and boxes and anyways, it's bad.

But once it is done, it will look so nice!
On Friday Grant and I made another trip down to St. George to pick up a couple of more things - that bookshelf that I wanted so badly (!), a floor lamp, and a kitchen table and chairs! We were originally planning on going down Friday night, sleeping there, and coming back some time on Saturday so we could see my family and spend some time with them. The plans changed however, when Grant went to pick up the trailer and they told us we had to have it back by 9:45 am on Saturday! He picked it up around 3:30 on Friday, and we reserved it for 24 hours. Apparently U-haul reserved it to someone else at ten am the nest morning (which just isn't fair) so we had to make the drive in such a short amount of time. We left our house about 4:30 in the afternoon and got back around 4:15 in the morning. We went straight to St. George, saw my Grandparent, my mom and Andrea, and then went over to Glenn's for pizza night quick. We then loaded our trailer and got on the road. Grant drove for the first two hours while I slept, and then I drove for the last two hours. We got home and crawled into bed.
The worst part was we had to wake up at 8:30 the next morning, which meant only 4 hours of sleep for us. Justin came by around 9 and helped us move the bookcase into the house (without his help there's no way we would have been able to do it - that thing is a beast!) Grant then went and returned the trailer, just in time. I still think we shouldn't have had to pay the full 24-hours worth of time since we only had it for 18 hours and no option to have it longer!
It was worth it though, the bookcase looks great and so does the table! We actually got a ton done on Saturday. After Grant returned the trailer we spent hours working on the kitchen and got it all set up!! Our first room finished! We then ran to Bed. Bath, and Beyond to returned a couple of things and get a couple of things we needed instead. Then we finally went to the grocery store! We've been living here almost a week now, and we haven't had a single thing to eat in the house, so it was really good to go and finally get food (though it was so expensive!)
Oh and I forgot to mention that Grant's car had to go into the shop and he thought something might be wrong with the transmission (which would have bee disastrous because that would have cost us easily $3000) but thankfully, it wasn't that bad - a lot of work still needed to be done on it, but it didn't cost us as much as we thought! phew! The problem was that it was misfiring, so Grant was getting terrible gas mileage and the car was shaking, and anyways it just got really bad and needed to be taken in. Everything is good now though!
Today (Sunday) we went to a random ward at 11:00. We didn't know which ward to go to, so we just looked up online the closest church and the times. It actually turned out to be a really great ward and the lessons were all fantastic! I'm tempted to go back. But it was a family ward and I've decided I should not be allowed to go to a family ward. Seeing all those babies made me want to have one and that just isn't the plan right now! So I think we'll stick to the young married ward to be safe :)
I can't wait for our house to be done! It will just be nice to have things settled. I'm anxious to get back into a routine so everything won't seem so jumbled and crazy. Grant and I made our first meal today as a married couple, and I'm excited to keep doing more of that! It'll be nice when we can just come home from work and relax.
I want to end by sharing some advice my Grandpa gave me this weekend. As I've said before, he's really sick and not doing well. It was really a miracle that he was able to come up and perform our wedding, and even come to our reception. I love him so much, and it was so good to be able to see him this weekend. When Grant and I said goodbye to him, we were standing by his bedside and he took my hand and said "Callie, Grant...when the dishes pile up, all the little arguments and what not, just take each dish one by one and scrub it clean - and then put it away"
Great advice from a really great man. It's a simple metaphor, and it's simple advice. When little things come up, don't push them aside, instead tackle each one and then put it away, never to think about it again. I'll always remember that (and I'll try to always adhere to it).
